Shahmahmood Miakhel is a senior Afghan expert in governance, defence, and peacebuilding. He currently serves as a Founding Member and Head of External Relations of the Pro-Republic Democratic Movement of Afghanistan (PDMA). He previously served as First Deputy and Acting Minister of Defence (2020–2021), Governor of Nangarhar Province (2019–2020), designated Ambassador of Afghanistan to Qatar, and Advisor on Afghanistan at the United States Institute of Peace (2021–2022).
