Virginia Pietromarchi

Based in Doha, Qatar, she writes breaking news, features and explainers with a focus on the Middle East, particularly Iran, and Europe. Virginia has reported from a dozen countries, including the occupied West Bank, Chad and the Vatican and covers a wide array of issues including elections, migration and diplomacy. She also scripts, hosts and produces video content when on assignment. Before joining Al Jazeera, she contributed to Italian news outlets La Stampa and Radio Rai, where she focused on Iranian politics. Virginia has carried out in-depth investigations into the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the destruction of villages in southern Lebanon. In 2024, she was part of the Al Jazeera Live Page team which received the Edward R Murrow Award for Breaking News Coverage for her reporting on Israel’s War in Gaza.
